City Pride

One of many things absent from Folsom, CA is city pride. Now, the city website (http://www.folsom.ca.us/default.asp) has a section on "resident testimonials" of how great Folsom is; I have not yet met those two people. The people I have spoken with seem to think this area is the armpit of the earth. Granted, when it is 105 outside and even breathing breaks a sweat, trying to muster up the enthusiasm that city pride requires can be a chore.

(me, the pup, and early evening activities. to our defense, it was 103 at 5pm on a wed. we use air conditioning and rest when we can)

Folsom is a pretty neat place. Granted, I have not seen the majority of it because of the heat, but the website makes life sound really exciting here. There is a medium security prison which was cool (haha) enough for Johnny Cash to sing about back in the day ("Folsom Prison Blues"). Seeing as there was a 200 man brawl at the prison last weekend, it looks like the residents like to have a good time, too.

My favorite attraction of Folsom is the zoo. Apparently it is not a "zoo" zoo, but rather an "animal sanctuary" where all the rejects go to live. There are bears, monkeys, birds, feral pigs, raccoons (?), deer, foxes... True, I have not yet been there, but I do plan to go the last Wednesday of this month, as it also hosts the monthly dog vaccination/license/microchipping clinic for the leashed Xerx from 6 to 8. The page on the website is quite informative; I feel like I've practically been to The Folsom City Zoo/Animal Sanctuary, and I look forward to going again.
